FEATURE: Thank You, Chanel!

NEW YORK — I was walking past Chanel Store on East 57 Street today, and I noticed that the focal point of their window display was the Little Black Dress (LBD). The mannequins were dressed in heavily accessorized with yellow metal hardware dresses, which were nothing else but Chanel’s timeless classics, the LBDs.

The Little Black Dress was created by Coco Chanel in 1926. Chanel believed that fashion must be functional and chic at the same time. The Little Black Dress was meant to be the fashion ideal — perfectly simple, yet very sexy — it was designed to fit women of every age and shape.

Vogue Magazine published first picture. The dress was calf-length and simple. Vogue Magazine noted at the time that the LBD would become “a sort of uniform for all women of taste.” It did!

82 years later, the LBD is still here and has the same strong appeal. It’s the ultimate classic trend. All it needs is just a few bells and whistles — few accessories to be in accord with ever changing trends and styles. The LBD is the blank canvas waiting to be painted on. And many designers do. Whether they add pockets, embroidering, lace, ruffles or metal hardware, these are just insignificant tweaks. Accessories change the mood of ensemble. What does not change is a prerequisite — the LBD must be made of expensive fabric, it must be well-cut and well-fitted…

Let’s see how some celebrities like their LBDs garnished (click the thumbnails to enlarge).
